Since my K750JN laptop does not have a windows 8.1x64 DVD I want to make a recovery media to assure that I can recover my system when needed.

From the control panel, I choose Recovery and the 1st choice is “Create a recovery drive”. Clicking on that I have the option to “Copy the recovery partition for the PC to the recovery drive”

If I choose the above option, the choice is to use a USB with 16GB space and it will erase all data on the USB

If I don’t choose that option, the choice again is to use a USB with 512MB space and it will again erase all data on the USB.

My question is what the 16GB space will include? Would this be the windows files / drivers?

And what the 512MB will include? Just the Boot files?

Solution
I imagine the 512mb is only some sort of recovery console or bootloader, then it would prompt you for the installation media. The 16GB would be the original image, with all the drivers and applications.
I doubt you can make a recovery drive with 512mb, most will be around 5-8GB. I would highly recommend you get a flash drive especially for your recovery, since there is no product key on your PC, and with UEFI windows 8 is a real pain to reload.

I did use a USB and backed up the 16GB image which is the windows 8.1. The 512MB is the boot loader and it was also backed up automatically. I used the Macrium back up program. Thanks for your time
