Remotely control speakers

Hi guys,

A while back I bough a pair of Audioengine A5's. I could hardly be any happier with them apart from the fact they the volume can only be controlled via the designated button on the left speaker. I was wondering if it is at all possible to add remote control functionality in any way?

If not, is it harmful to leave them on all day on relatively high volume and vary the input volume (PC)?

There isn't really any way to do it without degrading signal quality. You won't damage anything by adjusting the volume on the PC, you might just end up with a touch of static hiss.

Ok thanks for your reply. Just out of curiosity, what would be the way to do it if you were to accept degraded signal quality?

Depending on how long you needed to go, you could do two tihngs. One, is the expensive but correct way :

The second would be to just purchase a long line level cable, with a volume control on it. Just run that closer to where you are located. not true remote control, but certainly an extention. The sheer distance of the cable would lead to more interference in the signal.
