I am unable to remove C:\Windows\system32\vsdata.dll; I get an access denied error. I uninstall Zone Alarm 3 months ago, but do have VPN Client installed. Could VPN be using the Zone Alarm files?

Try AppRemover.

It specifically targets security apps and remainders left over from an incomplete uninstall.

http://www.appremover.com/

If you have no glory with that you could try Revo uninstaller:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/

And lastly, Zonealarm have their own clean-up utility (but I believe the program has to be fully functional when you run it) that couldn't hurt to try.

The file is called cpes_clean.exe (3.3MB) and it is from download.zonealarm.com.
Direct download link below:
http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/cpes_clean.exe

Create a back-up in case you find that your VPN is somehow using the files.

I too have been struggling with this problem.
vsdatant.sys can be located on my computer.
It has been the cause of innumerable BSODs.
I have located the file - and under Safe Mode - can delete it - -
BUT - - when I delete vsdatant.sys, my WiFi card becomes disabled, and I CANNOT fix that.
I have re-loaded the WiFi card drivers - to no avail - - however - -
When I make vsdatant.sys available to the system, WiFi capabilities are restored.
Being sick of the Zonealarm garbage - I have updated to the Comodo Firewall - -
But without uninstalling Comodo, I cannot install the current Version of Crapalarm to see if the BSOD will go away.
NEBD have any suggestions ??
