Replacing a 55" TV. Is a monitor a good option ?

I'm about to replace a 55" TV but not sure whether to buy a TV or a monitor. Most of our viewing is TV series and movies which are stored on a server and played via a WD media player. But we also watch a bit of sport.

If I buy a monitor I will presumably have to get a set top box. Can a set top box replicate some of the features of a smart TV?

A monitor won't be as big as a TV and it most don't have speakers built in. Get a TV.

The monitors I'm looking at are 55" and are made by Philips. Prior to my current TV I had a plasma monitor which I think was about 50". I don't need speakers as I have a receiver and the speakers are connected tp that.
