I am sure this is an easy answer, but I am running a Gateway NV79C and was thinking about upgrading the CPU. The only reason I am considering this is I am starting Advanced Networking and Programming @ school. Wanted something a bit quicker.

Ok so check this page out:

http://ark.intel.com/products/family/59141/Previous-Generation-Intel-Core-i5-Processor/mobile

Looks like the highest CPU supported is the Intel® Core™ i5-580M Processor (3M Cache, 2.66 GHz)

Although this is only a 260Mhz jump - so IMO it would not be worth the cost of the upgrade.

I think you could also upgrade to a Core i7 640M processor

But I would be wary of the cost and heat output of a new I7 processor in your laptop though.

Basically - I wouldn't reccomend upgrading your computer at all.
