Hiya. After lots of research on the forums, I have decided to buy a Lenovo Y510P for my college and medium gaming duties. Question now is, should I spend a little extra money on replacing the less-than-fantastic 1TB 5400 RPM HDD with a 256GB SSD? my questions are:

-Is this even worth it? How much of a difference would it be?
-If I put a few games on the SSD for faster load times, would I still have room for my college work on there?
-I would plan on making the original HDD into an external hard drive. How hard is it to keep stuff organized with an external HDD? I'd probably keep music and videos and anything else I didn't need all the time on there. Don't want to be in a situation where I'm constantly wishing I had my external!
-Is there a guide somewhere that can tell me how to do the switch in detail?
-would there be anyway to keep the OS that comes pre installed on the HDD and put it on the SSD?

I think that's it. Let me know what you guys think! Thank you!

-is it worth it? Well applications load x2,x3,even x4+ faster. Less freezing/crashing, better battery life (say ~15% about). 256gb ssd can go for 110$
I think you will have plenty of room even with a few games.
keeping stuff organized in an external HDD is the same as keeping it organized on a computer. just make folders on your external HDD to keep things tidy
check the hardware manual for steps on the swap - http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_y410p_y510p_hmm.pdf
or you can check youtube.
would there be anyway to keep the OS that comes pre installed on the HDD and put it on the SSD? - you will need one of these - http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-2-5-Inch-External-Aluminum-Enclosure/dp/B00E362W9O/ref=pd_cp_pc_3 and migration software - http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/
