Reset laptop back to mnfcture settings

I need help Iam a complete novice and i need to reset my laptop back to factory settings My laptop is an acer aspire 5542 running windows 7 I have tried to use the reset and repair system but to no avail and the back up and restore page will not load thanks in anticapation, archie .

yes but it does nothing i may add i have with help to down load all my info from my laptop to an external hard drive A.C.M
