Resetting an ipaq to original state?

I have an ipaq h2210. I wanted to "play" with the registry a bit,
but I read people's posting that's it's dangerous. The other thing
which I noticed is that I did not get windows ce on a cd when
I bought the ipaq. So the question is this, is the operating system
installed on a read only memory, and if not, what do I do if I
accidently corrupt the registry, is there a way to reset the ipaq
to the way it was when I first used it (without any software on
a cd) ?

Yes.

Hold buttons 1 (Calendar) and 4 (iTask) down while poking the reset hole
in the back with the stylus until the screen fades. You will know you
are successful if you cannot use the on/off button to power on the
machine (you need to do a soft reset before you can turn it on).

Beware that when you do this, you will return your iPaq to the factory
settings and lose any programs or data you may have loaded after you
received it.

As some additional input, you can do a backup of your 2210 either via
ActiveSync or iPaq Backup. That way if you do hose your PPC, you can 'hard
reset', restoring to factory fresh condition, and then restore from the
backup.

No, that would be just a soft reset, like a reboot of your desktop PC. A
hard reset -which is what we're talking about here-- involves poking the
little hole in the back and some additional action, depending on your
model of PDA. With my Palms, you had to poke the reset hole while holding
down the power button, with my Jornada 548, too (IIRC), and my current
Toshiba actually has a dedicated switch for the purpose.
