Retrieving photos from old phone

I lost my HTC one, so I blocked it and got a new phone (Nexus 5). When I got my new phone, most of my contacts from my old phone were somehow on my new phone after I activated it with my HTC One cell number. Can I get my photos back too somehow?

Depends..if you had some sort of photo upload/saving app such as onedrive or dropbox installed, then yes you can download them again. For the contacts ..they were most likely backed up on your google or HTC account (not sure if such a thing exists XD) and when you signed in on new phone, they appeared there again.
