Don't sweat it Jane your still my favorite article writer.
In fact this just secured that position even further.

By the way any chance the next Tom's contest prize will be a date with you? ;-)

The only reason why they're selling so many Blackberries is because half the people are replacing ones they broke from dropping them a couple times.

Its not just the screen size. Its the software and that comes with it. IPAD and IPHONE OS is pratically the same.

Rim doesn't get it. Its the OS and user interface. The experience that IPHONE and IPAD users get.

A 10 Inch RIM tablet won't make it with the current OS and or Application.

One thing that I haven't not heard mentioned - RIM is big in the enterprise world. RIM has had a foot hold for businesses for a long time now - 10yrs? RIM's BE Servers, software, and security for business is what Apple's iPhone will never touch unless Steve Jobs iron fists are laid to rest. I don't know if the numbers include Enterprise purchases of BB's but I don't think it did. I would think if it did...RIM's BB numbers should be 2x to 3x that of all iOS products combined?

Another note: Why is Jobs complaining about 7" being too smal for people to type and use when the iPhone is even smaller and people make due with that? Ironic Hypocritcal double standard on Jobs behalf? Seriously....does he think we are that stupid? Nevermind...I take that back. Most people are stupid enough to buy into Apple's "Distortion Field".

[citation][nom]TA152H[/nom]The RIM guy is a complete idiot. He says he "knows" 7 inches will be a big portion of the market. Only an idiot thinks he can predict a market with 100% certainty. And only Jobs actually seems to be able to do it.It's very irritating when someone speculates and confuses opinion with fact. He doesn't know anything of the sort. Apple doesn't want that bottom-feeder market, but it might come into being anyway. We'll see. Jobs always wants to make an appealing product, and doesn't want compromises in it, even if it would hit a price point that would make Apple more money. This might be an instance of it. I personally can't imagine using a puny 7" screen, but, that doesn't mean everyone else will hate it too.[/citation]
7" is exactly twice the size of the iPhone. If people are able to use a touch screen with 3.5", they will most certainly be able to use a 7" touch screen.

This is almost like saying the iPhone is s**t because it has a small screen when compared to the Droid X. So people also need to use a sand paper on their fingers to use the iPhone.

7" would be good for me 20 years ago when i got better eye sight. but now, i'd prefer something bigger, like 11". Asus first netbook was 7". then it became 8.9". then 10.1". why the transition to bigger screens when 7" is big enough? the market has spoken, not Apple, not RIM.

Don't be ridiculous. Do you not understand that there is a difference between a PHONE and a TABLET COMPUTER? Phones, by their very nature, in order to sell well and be practical to physically hold whilst talking, MUST be small, and are EXPECTED to be small. One of their SECONDARY uses is web browsing, which is clearly not as pleasant as it would be on a normal Laptop screen.

TABLETS, on the other hand, are intended to PRIMARILY be used for Web browsing, so the size of the screen, no longer restricted by the customers requirements and practicality, could be larger to enhance the experience.

If I was buying a tablet, all else being equal, I would always go with a 10" screen over a 7" screen, so I think Jobs has a point. Bastille also has a point that Flash is quite important for browsing.

To try and reconcile Jobs' comments about a TABLET COMPUTER, with a PHONE, is ridiculous, you may aswell say that if he wants a car with wheels, that means that IPhones should have wheels too.

And I thought I came across as a stalker...

...Somehow I knew what the comments would be before I had even read the article. 🙂

7" Screen could work, but if the whole device is 7" and it has huge 1" edges (like the iPad) then the screen would be too small for me.

What's the point of having a Tablet with a touch screen if you can have a netbook that outperforms it?

You're argument is just as invalid as his, if not moreso. People simply don't need tablets, they do less for more, it just doesn't make sense.
