Roku 3 on Standard Definition TV

Hello Community,

I would like to bring Netflix and online streaming to my in laws. I would like to get them a Roku 3, but the device says that it is only compatible with HDTVs. I did see that the Roku 3 only has an HDMI port on the back, but I was wondering if buying an HDMI to RCA or Component cable would resolve this incompatibility.

roku3 is hdtv only. roku2 supports sdtv and hdtv. the roku2xs is nice because its not wireless only (you can hook it up via ethernet) but it costs a little more. personally i'd say get the xs unless you dont want to use a ethernet cable in which case the xd is cheaper and would work.

i dont think just buying a converter would work. the roku 3 only supports 720 and 1080.
