root kit removeable tools

HI,I was reading an article in WIKIPEDIA about root kits and it appears these nasty little buggers
are almost impossible to remove them.
Does anybody have any good ideas about how to go about checking a PC to see if it is infected
and if it is how to clean it,thanks

Every Antivir will at least find them. You can try this, if you don't trust your own one: http/www.mcafee.com/au/downloads/free-tools/stinger.aspx
