It looks like Kurzweil is now a brand of Samick. That ought to be
interesting.

Not necessarily new news but from what I understand it's bad news just
the same.

On the other hand, everyone said the same thing -- Bad News -- when
Young Chang took over the Kurzweil MI line, and yet they seemed to have
maintained their integrity & quality.

My guess is a US consortium will buy the company assetts just to assure
continued availability of parts & service & (hopefully) tech support.
Similar to what happened with The Synclavier Company. (Are they still
extant?)

And I suspect Sweetwater will spearhead this. Or, in all seriousness,
I'd encourage them to.

Very old news. And outdated. The Korean government anulled the acquisition,
citing illegal procedures. Kurzweil is in limbo still. Warehouses are under
court order to ship nothing, hence a serious parts shortage for service
depts.

The most up to date info seems to be on the SonikMatter.com web site under
community, ye olde synth forums, Kurzweil synths and effects...

True, but the Rumour and Mangler are great sounding boxes, and in all
the studios I've been in and out of since they shipped I've not seen one
in use, not even in any project studios, and there was practically zero
net discussion about them. I tried to get a demo in NYC last year and
could not.

The KSP8 is supposedly a very nice sounding reverb, but...

And what to make of this:

A rep selling off his demos?

I think there has been some serious problems there, even if not in the
integrity and quality departments.

This is probably not alarming at all. Often times, dealers are allowed to
buy a "demo" unit at a greater discount than the usual percentage; then
they're allowed to sell the demo after a certain period of time; (eg, 6
months) then they buy another.
