The phones are already too thin as they are, which means using your finger tips to hold them up against your head and less comfortable. My Galaxy 1 is 1/3 thinner than my previous DUMB phone (but sucking up 30% more area), I put my old phone up to my head... and it feels much nicer to hold, less likely to drop.
Why is my old phone handy? Because I use it as an alarm since Samsung's THIN phones have weak speakers and can barely wake me up. Really smart to put the speaker on the back so if the phone is on a surface, it blocks the sound.
