who cares? If google spent millions of $$ on this then I'm sure they had some kind of reason...I can't imagine what it would be, but maybe that's why I don't own a multi-billion dollar search engine. They must be protecting themselves from something.

Hah, that's funny. I guess Google did it to protect itself from people suing them or to use in a counter suit.

Another reason we should get rid of software patents.

If there is a way I can patent STFU then if anyone sues me I can make the court into a circus and everytime they say to STFU it adds to my counter suite 😀.

I think Google's just covering their arse. If another person or company got the patent, then they'd sue Google.

* Of course at that case Google's lawyers might just call the patent frivolous.

This is without doubt the more stupid thing I have ever, Ever, EVER read on the internet - and there are some pretty stupid things out there.

This patenting frenzy is somehow Zoidberg news: Extra Extra Google patents it's home page.I'll take five.Whoop Whoop Whoop

I'll patent my dick. Once granted, I'll sue you so either settle for lots of $, or cut it off. No prior art found. Might not have looked very far.

Most likely they are patenting it to protect themselves. It would be pretty embarassing if they could do nothing to stop a fake google from popping up. I'd only contest this if google was planning on harassing its competition.

As to the simplicity of google: why would you want it any different? The page loads fast and offers linking to any of the features you will use without being too flashy or distracting. Altavista has a similar approach.. albiet with a little more of a gui.

they should patent my ass.i mean why not it is a beautiful ass and it is fully functioning.i could make billions of dollars on my ridiculous patent.
