SD Adapter?

Ok, searching everywhere for some good info on this topic. Googled myself
into la la land already....Bear with as I'm still a NOOB!

I'm looking for a type II PCMCIA adapter for my Ipaq. HP's site shows the
adapter, I guess it connects to the back of my PPC (Ipaq 5550) Can I then
use an adapter to use more than the 512mg limit on the Ipaq? I've seen so
many different types on adapters....head hurts. Could I also use a network
card in this adapter to access my LAN?

There are also CF adapters, some with extra batteries to extend your life.
Yes you can use adapters in the 'sleeve' as they are called for the iPAQ
series that uses them. I really don't think you have a 512M limit on the SD
slot anyway. Some of those specs were written before 1 and 2G cards were
prevalent enough for the manufacturers to be confident enough to quote that
they work. And yes, you can use other peripheral cards like network
adapters, modems, and such. You just need to be sure that the card you buy
has drivers that support your PPC. Not all do, and actually the CF cards are
more likely to have PPC drivers available, as more PPCs have integral CF
slots, than have PCMCIA capability.

Any memory handling limit would be on your ppc now wouldn't it? Why
would it go just because you use an adapter?

Why not email the makers/sellers to ask? They may have the information
you are seeking.

For a long time, the IPaq "sleeves" were switchable, between units, but
I don't know if your unit can use the older ones.

Suggest finding the partnumber for the sleeves for your device, then
search for the partnumbers for the older ipaqs and find those that
match, then do an ebay search if you are looking for the lowest possible
cost.

Again, as Sven mentioned, you can use high capacity SD cards... think
the most affordable high capacity is 1 gig, but saw that a multi gig SD
card was just announced. The "sleeves" will effectively double the
thickness of your device, the pcmcia sleeve being the largest from HP.

The adapter sleeve works fine for that purpose, I'm posting this message
from mine with a wifi connection in it to connect to the Internet with. For
the PCMCIA cards, you'll need to make sure they have drivers for Pocket PC.
They cost more than a regular PCMCIA card, but have the advantage of doing
double duty in a laptop.

Many Thanks, again. I found a 5gig PCMCIA mini-drive which would hold lots
of MP3's that I could use in my car. The 512mg limit that is listed by HP
makes me cautious. Still waiting for a reply from HP.
