my wife wants a small smartphone and doesnt need anything to advanced, should we consider the se even though it is disc and if so what ios should i get or are there upgrades?

Sure SE is still OK as a phone, I just recommended one to someone that wanted a smaller device. About the iOS version, use whatever is on the phone, it it tells you there is an update, run the update.
