Secure cheap protection

I am currently building a new computer (if you have been around the new build section you have prob seen my many most). I have most of the part and am wrapping up. However, I do not have any protection. What is recommended. I am a social worker and I have more than just my information at risk. But again, I am a social worker . . . in Illinois for that fact. So I am poor...please help.

I use the free version of AVG or Avast on my machines.

Microsoft Security Essentials is also free, and very good as well.

is it possible to get a virus by playing a game online? Not like facebook games but BF3 or WarZ something AAA or AA even?

Any time you're connected to the net you're vulnerable.

As an aside, I would never store business related data on a machine used for personal purposes. It puts your client's information at great risk, not to mention your own neck if any of that data is lost or stolen.

I have a crappy lap top that I will use for my clients info. Thanks alot.

i use a avg internet security. i wouldnt trust microsoft security essentials
