Seeking a laptop for college

Trying to purchase my girlfriend a laptop for her birthday as she returns to college this fall. It will really be used for typing papers and browsing the web on campus. I am just seeking a decent brand/laptop that wont crap out on her in 6 months.

Heres what ive found so far and wondering if you guys can tell me whats the best for about $200 give or take a few dollars:

I love the gesture but it must be said that a $200 laptop will bring nothing but frustration.

Kind of agree with that.
Rather spend the $200 on coke and show her a good time in the bedroom

If it really comes down to those, I'd try the asus. Got a (reasonably expensive) HP for the wife a few years back, and it was loaded with so much crap. Really only lasted 2 years.

For anything worthwhile, you'll need to up your budget a little bit to pick up something with a minimum of an i3.
