Are gaming headsets optimal for listening to music anyways? I would expect them to have a boost in the frequencies where speech generally occurs, which could make them a little boxy sounding for music.

This is just to say that your comparison between the sennheiser gsp 600 and the HD 25 may not be entirely fair. Different tools for different jobs.
