Solved! Sennheiser HD569 sound is fine when I connect headphones directly to my monitor, but with extension cord only when I hold the mic-button.

I have a Sennheiser HD569, and when I connect it directly to my monitor the sound is great. However, since the cable that comes with the headphone (the one with the mic) is rather short, I was trying out an extension cord. When using the extension cord, the sound is all weird, it sounds like voices are filtered out. Only when I hold the button on the mic the sound goes back to normal.

The extension cord I use only has 3 poles, while the headphone cable has 4, so I assume it has something to do with that. But I thought using a 3 pole cable would just disable the mic, but work fine for sound. Is this an incorrect assumption?

Could someone explain what is going on? And why holding the button seems to fix the sound?

Thanks!
