Setting Up Home Audio System + Computer

Hey everyone. I need a bit of help here today. My dad gave me his old stereo stuff and I'm trying to add some to it.

Here’s what he gave me:
Yamaha HTR-5460 Receiver

4x JBL N24II Speakers + 1x N-CenterII Speaker

The subwoofer is broken, so I need to buy a new one. I know I want a 12" sub, but I really don't know what to choose. So if you guys could recommend some lower to mid-range priced ones, I'd really appreciate it.

I also want to know if I could hook up those floorstanding speakers to the receiver I currently have, along with the other four speakers I already have. I know the receiver is only 5-channel, but It has seven inputs for speakers, and one for the subwoofer.

Lastly, I want to be able to hook up all of this to my computer. I think I know how to hook it up to my TV, if I don't, I'll ask later. I have an ASUS Z87-Pro Motherboard (http/www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87PRO/), let me know if you need any more information.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, and I've attached pictures of what I have. Thanks to all of you in advance!

Hello, I hooked up my pc to my home teather last week, I was having problems with the optical so after a lot of research I found out that the best connection for your motherboard would be through analog connections, you would need 3 of these cables:

http/www.amazon.com/RiteAV-Feet-3-5mm-Stereo-Cable/dp/B000V0G2C4

You can buy them anybrand you want but they need to be 3.5 mm to RCA, then you can connect them from your analog outputs to your receiver.

I suggested this method because I see that the receiver has no hdmi inputs.

Don't even try optical, it wont work in surround in games, just movies.

You should plug the 3.5mm cables to the line out, rear and c/sub in your motherboard/sound card, and the RCA's to the 6ch inputs.

After that don't forget to set yo your speakers to 5.1 surround in windows.

Will I be able to hook up those speakers I'm thinking about buying along with my other four speakers and the center speaker? Do you have any subwoofer recommendations?

If you want to replace the front left and right speakers with the towers fine but don't worry about using the old speakers with them. You can safely run them as the same time but it won't add anything and may sound worse. I would use the old fronts as your rears.
As to the sub I would not worry about the woofer size or power. A better 10" woofer will produce more volume than a cheaper 12" and may match better to your room. In you price range I would look at Polk subs. They are often available at pretty low prices at Newegg.

The receiver has a sub output so if you get a powered sub like this it https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1200-12-120-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-629won't use the receivers amps. The amps in receivers are average at best.

Good advice by AA, those smaller speakers would work well for rear and/or side speakers. I'm not sure of the quality of those JBL floor standers but most likely better then those satellites. IF you plan on buying the JBLs, see how they sound first and you can consider a sub later.
