Should I replace the AC adapter or the power jack?

I have a Toshiba Satellite P305-S8823 laptop. There isn't a battery in it right now. A couple years ago it wouldn't hold a charge so I took it out and just used the power cord. Its been a while since I've used the laptop.

The AC adapter won't plug into the charging port. The plug isn't connecting properly in the port. I was thinking of just replacing the power jack cable but not really sure that is the issue or the power cord.

Should I replace the AC adapter or the charging port?

Thank you!

Use a multi meter (voltage) and test the output on the adapter cable.
If you are comfortable doing that, then rig it up with electrical tape so it's a secure connection, and then use your free hands to flex the wire and be sure it's always passing power. If the adapter and cord are good, then all that's left is the port.
