Sims 3 installation problem

hiiii,

can anyone help me out here?
its about installing the sims 3 onto a uk windows vista laptop.
the laptop allows me to begin installing, asking me what language preference and then once i begin downloading it stops and a box pops up saying 'file:f\data1.cab
Error: the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error'


help asap please, got the disc for christmas and would be a shame for it to waste.

Check the disk for smudges, also try it on another computer. If neither of those work, exchange disk. BTW, you are not "downloading" the disk, you are installing the application. My son keeps saying the same thing. You only "download" a file off an external source and save it for later. Once you start to run the file you are installing the program, or updating something.
