So my core temperature is fine but I still get about 40-20 frames on games

So I have an nvidia geforce GT 740m processor on a laptop but I lag fps wise. I checked the cores are at a good temperature so I need help.

The GT 740m is not a really good GPU for gaming anyway. It could be because you're at the limit of what it can do.

I'm lagging on every game I play. Sorry that its not really specific :/
EDIT: But for some reason skyrim isn't on High quality.

It's your GPU. It is a rather weak GPU. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you'll see some games at various resolutions and the expected frame rate. Anything under 30fps will be sluggish.

I forgot to add that I had 60 frames constantly before I had to reinstall a new harddrive.
