Hi Guys,

Can you recommend a solid state drive for my Packard Bell EasyNote NS44 i-3 2310m

I couldn't find my model on the Packard Bell website which is why I am stuck. PB is now owned by Acer so I put this in the Acer sub cat. Why isn't this model on their site? so annoying....

I want to run windows 7 home premium 64 with about 20 gig of installed software.

All the rest I keep on an external

It's not too easy to replace a laptop's drive, compatibility-wise. What kind does it have in it now?

Well I don't know, it arrives tomo and my model isn't listed on the PB website so I can't find out.

I didn't think there was any compatability issues to be honest, I have replaced hard drives before on laptops with no problem.

There wont be compatibility issues as long as the laptop supports SATA 2 at least. A SSD is an awesome upgrade for a laptop it really makes them hum. Be careful with that Packard Bell they had a bad reputation and I wouldn't recommend them.

Well it says SATA so I'm not sure. How can I tell if it supports sata 2?

If it is an i3 it should support SATA 2 which has been the SATA standard for quite some time. SATA 3 is available but it is not main stream yet.

I have a ADATA SSD and love it It will work with your setrup and you only need the smallest one they have (40) gb when you switch you wont believe the diffrence in boot, and load times ! Its like night and day ! I have an extra one if your interested New in the box never even opened ? Just asking ??

99% of notebooks are SATA2 still

SATA2 and SATA3 etc are all compatible

dont get a 40gb drive its too small for Windows 7 + applications, 120gb is a decent size

Intel is second to none for reliability if you can afford it

He may say he needs 20, but what if that changes? Is he going to buy another drive just to get more space then or use a brain and get something with a little extra space just now lol.

Also 40gb wont be 40gb when formatted.

and 120 wont be 120 when formated either !!! he has an external drive for storage ! But I guess you know how much storage he needs botter than he does

I know how much storage I need, this isn't my first laptop. But seeing as you seem to really want to know the depths...

It's for developing, all i am going to use is GIMP, crimson editor and a few others like open office and I'll put vlc player in case i wanna watch the odd movie. I have a beast PC for gaming, also an external hard drive and 2 32 gig memory sticks. infact I only need less than 5 gig storage space, I am adding an extra 300% 'just in case i need more'.

Ive been getting away with 60 GB in my laptop. If your requirements are light a 60 GB may well suit.

if u need 10 gig for the os, how do you install 50gig worth of software lol

It is actually not hard to rack up 50 GB worth of software these days. I have checked out my normal sources for components and I observe that it may be very difficult to source a SSD that has a modern controller like Sandforce that is smaller than 60 GB. There may be some 50 GB drives around but I cant see any listed. So if you want smaller than a 60 GB you may very well be forced to buy some outdated rubbish that suffers from the infamous stuttering that many earlier SSD's suffered from.

thanks, i think ill go for 60gb then. I want to have TRIM and a decent read/write like 250/250
