sony home theatre difficulties

Hello, I am having a problem with my sony str-dh550 model home theatre receiver. I am trying to connect the receiver's video monitor out jack to my TV's video input jack with rca cables and all I am getting is a blue screen. Is there something else I could try to get a display so I can change the settings?

What is your video input source?

Very few receviers have active converters to take a digial input (like hdmi) and output via the RCA output.

boosted1g probably has it right. You can check by attaching a source to the composite video input of the receiver and see if that works. One of these can be used to down convert the HDMI out to video:

You can't use a cable to do this, you need an active device.
