Hi

The boss ordered me a Sony Vaio Pro 11 (CoreTM i7-4500U 1,8 GHz with Intel® HD Graphics, 256 GB Unidad Flash SSD, 4 GB 1600 MT/s DDR3L SDRAM 4400) in order to replace my ageing Dell XPS M1330 (Nvidia8400GS, Core 2 Duo 2.5, 4gb DDR2). The Dell looked good although was a real piece of crud, having to have the MB replaced 6 times due to the Nvidia GPU and the fan noise was unbearable even with a laptop cooler below and it was badly limited by the graphics.

Mostly the Sony will be used for Outlook but every now and again I like to fire up some older games such as Fs2004, Theatre of War 2, Armed Assault 2 - which is hardly playable on the XPS) and was wondering if the integrated graphics on the Sony would be better than the aging dedicated 8400GS on the XPS? I guessed the Processor speed will be similar on the 1.8 Haswell to the Core2 at 2.5 with the flash HD giving me the greatest boost in performance and I really hope that the graphics will be at least on par to run some games at lower resolution. Basically will I finally be able to retire the old XPS?

Cheers!

3D Mark 03 points:
GeForce 8400 GS = 4800 pnt (http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVidia-GeForce-8400M-GS.3709.0.html)
Intel HD 4600 = 22500 pnt (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600.86106.0.html)

Definitely an upgrade.
