Sony Vegas playing video crash

I've been having an issue the past few hours and after what seemed like years of searching the web can't find anything. Anyhow, whenever I get a video onto my timeline and play it it goes black after a few second while I can still hear the audio I press pause and it crashes.

What type of video file are you trying to work with (.avi, mp4, .mov, or something else.)? What version of Vegas are you using? Some system specs might be helpful as well.
