Sony vs Canon camera

Solution
> Buy the Canon SX720 HS if:
- You only want to take stills photography
- You want the extra zoom reach
- You want to save some money

> Buy the Sony DSC-HX90V if:
- You want better video quality
- You want better auto features
- You plan on doing more sports/fast moving photography

But both of these cameras are cut from the same cloth. In my opinion the difference is neglegible and the Canon IS cheaper!

Depends how you define "better", but on brand alone I'd recommend a Canon over Sony for a camera every time.

Canon have been making quality cameras for many decades (admittedly this goes back to the film era), Sony by comparison is a newcomer in the field.

Just be quite sure it's a compact you really want. A compact was my first digital camera purchase and within a month it left me feeling too restricted & and wanting more from a camera (having just come from a Pentax SLR film camera).

So I sold the compact and bought a DSLR, to which I added (over several months) longer zoom lenses for wildlife shots and a more powerful flashgun , none of which would have been possible with a pocket digicam.

So be sure of want you want to be able to do with a camera, not just now but what you might want to do with it in the future.
