Well...I don't like Sony, and I don't really care for the PS3 (I still own a PS1 and PS2) and I could care less about their troubles. However, with the PSN being down, this affects a lot of people who are just gamers like me and that sucks...and I feel bad for them.

Except of course those PS3 gamers who make comments about other companies...cough jasonh cough...I'm glad your service is down.

Who cares what the reasoning for the attack is... The response to the damage and future ramifications is what we have to look forward to here....

With that being said, the fact that Sony had to take down the entire PSN network shows they were not prepared, or are being stubborn... A temporary interruption, wipe and load of hard drives, then a resumption of services when the DoS was over, followed up by a thoughtfully written patch a couple of days/weeks later would be the way to go....

Sony could have taken this attack in stride and made more loyal customers by playing the attack something like this: "Despite a temporary network shutdown caused by hackers, Sony maintains customer service and thumbs its nose at hackers....."

guys hacks sony play stations, guy gets sued by sony anonymous steps in hacks sony, turns everything off, computer users merrily rack up the kills in cod3, playstation users break out otrches and start hunting hackers.
microsoft inherits the console world.

[citation][nom]Jfby[/nom]Attacking Sony? The main thing I'm 'upset' with Sony about is lack of transparency about a time-table for a fix. Don't sugar coat; if it's going to take a month, say so. I'm sure they have many reasons not to give a timeline, but they shouldn't have guessed in the first place.I haven't even used my PS3 for games in months but rather to watch Netflix, as I don't even have a premium cable package. No I don't pay for PSN, but I do pay for Netflix and my main avenue for that is down now.Hopefully Sony fixes this and comes back stronger for it.[/citation]

I've used Netflix on my PS3 since then...you don't need to be signed into PSN to be able to use Netflix.

You don't need to be connected to PSN to use Netflix. All you need is an Internet connection and the ability to ignore the popups asking you to sign in to PSN when Netflix is loading.[citation][nom]jfby[/nom]Attacking Sony? If somebody really did manage to breach sony's security, they really must have made a major impression. PSN has been down for AGES...

Yeah, I'm guessing Anon. Interesting if it's them; I wouldn't have thought they'd be behind any fraudulent credit card charges on Sony subscribers' accounts, as they usually stand up for the everyman... maybe that isn't them?

good news, you can get to yuor netflix now without it (I've been bypassing the PSN signon and netflix worked for me both Sat & Sun

Yeah, I was pissed at first because I thought I wouldn't be able to watch netflix. As the one commenter noted above, you just have to close out all the screens telling you that you can't load netflix and it loads up just fine. Back to gaming on Steam. Way to let your service go down for a week and not even inform the users. Ps3 is nothing more than a media player for me at this point.

[citation][nom]amk09[/nom]Arrested??? Wow man you need to take a step back and think about that. This is childs play compared the crimes that are commited in this world. How about we focus on murderers, rapists, gang violence? Or how about keeping dumbass drunk drivers/texting drivers off the roads, because thats KILLING families loved ones every day. This is nothing but a protest by a group of people, and you can't deny that its mostly Sony's own fault. They should have implemented a more secure system from the get-go, and Suing Geo-hot was a terrible decision. It's the same with any group of people. Take the fairly recent protest in London. If you anger a bunch of college students by raising annual tuition from $14,000 to $42,000, they will rage and protest. Should we arrest the 50,000 students who marched in protest because they got screwed over? Should we arrest the supporters of Geo-hot and hackers who wish to do as they please with their own property? No, we shouldn't, thats just fucking stupid.I will add that I don't think Sony deserves this entirely, they have continued to keep the PSN free while the other side continues to charge. In the end, they should have never went after Geo-hot like that, because they could have avoided this whole situation.[/citation]
Unfortunately this kind of stuff takes away from police time of tracking down the murderers. rapists and so on. Simply this is a huge corporation with the money to influence the police to help them over other crime (which is sad but true). But hacking is a crime, first you could steal personal information of all of Sony's customers (including credit information, addresses and so on). In which stealing 1000's of peoples financial information is very important. Also this is not just a peaceful protest, it is an attack. Which again can lead to stealing. In addition it can cause damage to the servers and security that Sony has put in place causing them to revamp the system costing thousands to millions. So you see it isnt exactly as small of a deal as you put it. Also bringing Geo-Hot's hacking into this isnt exactly the same thing, he did something that I believe should be allowed since it is your property that you are toying with. As far as the 50,000 protesters, they should be arrested if they tried to harm anyone or their property, otherwise no. But in short, if you so upset over the police putting more time into this over someone who murders or rapes then you should be mad at those who make the police have to take time away from those people.

[citation][nom]firvagor[/nom]Cows must have something against this article because one just popped out from the side of the screen and took a milky piss all over it.WTF, La Creme ad?[/citation]

Haha I saw that too!

[citation][nom]flaminggerbil[/nom]Very weak attempt at justification, hope they get arrested.[/citation]

A reason is a reason, justifiable or not.
