Sound and mouse suddenly not working....?

Hello! I have a Toshiba L505D-LS5006 laptop that is about 3 years old. Everything has been working fine on it until I turned it on about 30 minutes ago and found that my mouse and sound wasn't working. I looked in my device manager and saw a yellow exclamation point over the sound device. I tried to update the drivers, but it said that I already have the most current drivers. However, when I go into properties it says that there is no device installed at all. I then reformatted my computer, re-installed all the necessary drivers and Windows 7 updates and found that I was still having the same issue. I looked in device manager again and saw that my USB controllers were not showing at all. This scares me that it could be a possible hardware issue....?

Any help is appreciated...

To add, I have a Razer mouse and I am sure that it works because it works on my brother's computer, just not mine. When I plug the mouse into any usb port on my laptop the mouse wheel lights up, but the laser does not come on. I also run a Belkin cooling fan underneath for lap gaming and when I plug that in it works just fine, so I am confused. If it was hardware-related wouldn't it not work at all?
