So I am looking to buy the Sennheiser G4ME ONE's and i heard that you need a sound card of some sort to use them (for gaming in my case), to mention my mobo is fairly old. Is this true and if so what sound card would you guys recommend, it needs to be external USB though as i'm looking to upgrade to a new rig soon. Thank You!

Hello,

They have 50 Ohm impedance and a good SPL range, so they will sound good with many audio devices, including dated motherboards with onboard audio. However, for best performance you must use an USB DAC or a sound card with dedicated headphone amplifier, something like this:

I have an ASUS Xonar DGX driving my PC360's. They are the exact same headset, just look a bit different. The built in amp definitely helped them overall. They hit harder and get lower when I have them running through the sound card.

Not sure as it is not specified by iBuyPower :( Like i said im looking to upgrade to a new rig soon ( http://pcpartpicker.com/user/FrozenHam/saved/3P8j4D ) and i dont want to buy an expensive sound card if the new rig can run it fine without a card :)

That Syba USB DAC is not expensive at all and employs one of the best consumer headphone amplifiers (LM4562), so you can give it a try on your old system.

The new motherboard will have ALC1150, a good audio chip which apparently has built-in headphone amplifiers on its outputs, so it is possible that you will be pleased by how it performs.

are either of these a good match to this headset?

DSS2 seems to be a better solution for gaming, with its surround sound processor specifically made for using Stereo headsets (I haven't used one, so I cannot give you a real feedback). X-Fi is quite capable by itself, but only if you have an external 5.1 amplifier and the correspondig speakers (the headphones will be limited to Stereo sound, unless you have a 5.1 headset with S/PDIF connection). The best quality will be achieved by using an USB DAC, but gaming is not their strong point (they shine in Stereo).

You already purchased the G4ME ONE? Because if you want true surround through headphones, you should use a 5.1 headset:
