Sound doesn't work thru hdmi cable from hp laptop to tv It worked before without problems. Any ideas?

Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar, goto playback devices and set hdmi as the standard device.

If you have windows 8 then you should go to the control panel, then hardward and sound. When you click on sound after entering that the hardware and sound, right click the box in the playback tab and enable the disabled devices.

- I had the same exact problem. Make sure your graphics card is updated. (FYI, mine is NVIDIA, the HDMI output is controlled by the graphics card not the laptops sound driver I learned.)

It worked said default devise which was TV but at least it is playing through HDMI , DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE EXTRA WIRE FOR AUDIO THANKS!

What if the HDMI device doesn't appear in Sound? The display is just fine and automatically connects. The HDMI device used to appear in Sound, and now it doesn't, even after reboots.

Hello there. If this happens, then you'll need to verify if the audio is activated in the video control panel. (Nvidia, Ati, Intel, etc). Or you can check if they're not deactivated in the Device Manager.

If they're not in device manager, I suggest you update your video card drivers.
