Solved! Sound out of external speakers is louder on new phone

Hi I recently bought a set of creative t40 speakers and they are brilliant but I have two phones , a new Nokia 8 and an older Nokia 3. When I plug the Nokia 8 into the speakers the sound is incredibly loud and brilliant but when the Nokia 3 is plugged in it is a fair bit quieter.
What would be the reason for this?

Different headphone jack design. More output and better design on headphone jack = better final sound. Not really anything unusual.
