I was given a Dell W4200hd Plasma tv with external speakers. Speakers are gone and I have no sound. Someone please tell me what to buy that I can hook up to this TV in order to bypass the external speakers?? Please be specific, because I don't have a clue. Thanks for your help.

Solution
Just next to the power cord you will find four speaker terminals. These take two conductor speaker wire. The amplifier in the TV is 20 watts per channel so you can use any pair of passive speakers. Most of these will have speaker wire terminals on them. Some cheaper ones might have RCA jacks on them. If the speakers are passive there will not be a power cord attached to either of them. Here are examples

The TV also has digital audio outputs that you can use with a soundbar or powered speakers that have digital inputs...

If you want to keep the price really low you should be able to find some passive speakers at a thrift shop or on Craiglist. Almost anything will be OK.

When you are talking about passive speakers . . . I bought a pair of cheap Sony stereo speakers at a thrift shop the other day just to test the audio jacks to see if they were still working - I bought them because they have red/black wires same as the attached speakers; however, they have no "jacks" that would allow me to plug into the TV. Are you saying that I could make these work somehow?? Also, if I go the route of a soundbar - is there a cheaper version that would work? Someone suggested something about an "optical" connection was needed?? Thanks for helping me.
