So I have bought a 4k monitor which has no audio output and 5.1 speakers (creative a550), and I want to connect it to my pc, ps3 and ps4 to switch easily between them without losing quality on the output. I was wondering if this will work out: connect the speakers to an external audio card (https://www.amazon.es/dp/B002LM0U2S/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_n...), then connect the optical audio input to a switch (https://www.amazon.es/dp/B00RPVTN5U/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_n...) and then 3 cables of optical audio connected to the ps3, ps4 and the pc, respectively

Solution
the box does not necessarily have to be a usb soundcard of some sort (or is the one linked by you using usb for power only??) any optical audio extractor (optical to analog) with 5.1 support (dolby digital compressed formats) should work as well provided all of your sources can output 5.1 via optical (ps3 and ps4 should.. pc can if the soundcard supports it)

your way of thinking is correct though. an optical switch going to an optical to analog 5.1 box should work how you intend.

The one I linked was one that I thought was cheap and doing the trick, so if I get what you are saying: I need an optical audio extractor with 5.1 support instead of an usb soundcard? Something like this: https://www.amazon.es/Decodificador-Sonido-Digital-Anal%C3%B3gico-AC112/dp/B00CO0GTB8/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1482848195&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=Panlong+%C2%AE+5.1+Audio+Gear ?

you have 2 options:
optical audio extractor and 5.1 support
usb soundcard with optical input and 5.1 support

i think going with an optical audio extractor would be better since you would not need to worry about usb power as it has its own plug. just make sure the model you get is 5.1 capable (compressed dolby digital) and is not just an upscaler (dolby pro logic only which fakes 5.1 from 2.1). i'm not sure which the device you linked is.. it seems like both?

Do you have any reference link for an extractor like you mentioned?

those are basically the same as you linked in your last post. as far as knowing which support 5.1 over optical and which do not its hard to say. the one you linked might work but the emphasis on prologic makes me question it.

i'm fairly sure products like https://www.amazon.com/Tiean-Coaxial-Digital-Decoder-Converter/dp/B01N58UM9N/ref=sr_1_27?ie=UTF8&qid=1482885022&sr=8-27&keywords=5.1+optical+audio+extractor which list dts support will work and decode 5.1 over optical but many ads are very vague about things so honestly there is no way to tell for sure unless someone answered a question or left a review about the model.

i do not speak spanish so i can not help you with your amazon.es searching too well since google translate is not accurate enough to really know for sure.
