Sticky And Unresponsive Laptop Keyboard

I've been having some problems with my keyboard recently. On occasion, certain letters will not type, such as E, D and I, and sometimes they will be typed twice. Anyone have any idea what this is? I haven't cleaned my keyboard, and am somewhat afraid to since the buttons aren't very easy to put back on. I'm running Toshba Protege Z935 on Windows 8.1, if that's useful at all.

A replacement non-backlit keyboard will run you about $25 http/www.ebay.com/itm/like/281400974348?lpid=82 or you can try to remove and clean the keyboard (you might want to have a replacement on hand just in case cleaning doesn't help). With the keyboard out of the unit, it can be steam cleaned with distilled water, give it at least 24 hours to dry if in a dry environment, up to 72 hours in a more humid environment. A hair dryer can help here (especially if humid area), use a low heat setting for a few seconds every hour or so to help it dry. Be very sure that the keyboard is fully dried before replacing it into the laptop and powering up. It may be easier to simply replace the keyboard.
