Subwoofer and New Speakers

I recently bought some Creative Gigawork T40 series speakers. I was wondering whether I could buy a separate subwoofer and connect it somehow. I am not the best with speakers so any help would be appreciated. Or does a subwoofer have to come with speakers?

You can add a self powered sub to these. If you are using a PC then you would connect these to the green front audio out and the sub to the orange audio output. Set the audio control panel to 2.1.
With other sources you would split the output to the satellites and sub. You would need a volume control in front of the speakers to adjust volume of both with one control.
