I have a HP dm4 laptop (i5 / 6G RAM / SSR HDD)

Lately it has started to suddenly slowdown to a crawl. Everything is slow: graphics, disk, menus etc.

I am now running Win 10, but I had the same issue under Win 7 (this is why I tried to upgrade)

Didn't find any viruses.

S.M.A.R.T does not show any issues.

The task manager is clean. CPU load 7%, RAM 40%.

However, CPUID HwMonitor lists all 4 CPUs at 100% when it slows down.

Why the difference?

The CPU temp is 60 degC.

Fan is clean.

I have found that unplugging the power helps ?????
Is it because it changes clockspeed?

Any clues???

Thanks

If unplugging helps with the speed issue, it seems like it's a heat thing. Unplugging a laptop would by default set the CPU/video/screen/etc.. to lower speeds to save power. On wall power it will run faster, generating more heat. If the system overheated, the circuitry would drop the speed of the components down to keep them cooler and safe.

If you can, try a fully clean setup of Windows, not an upgrade from a system with issues. Just make sure you backup your files and settings (Favorites, etc...), or get a new hard drive to run the new setup on which is what I recommend if you have a Windows disk to use (or make one) and can spend the money for a new drive. That way you just keep your old one as a backup and use the new one. If...
