I got a new laptop and was wondering if I could just swap out the HDD with a SSD completely and reinstall the OS that it came with?
I remember reading that i should reinstall the OS completely when switching to SSD but not sure that if I will be able to do that and if possible is there anything else I would need to know before going through with this.

Further information:
Laptop: Lenovo G505s
Old HDD: 1TB
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB

What should I look into before doing this? If this is possible to do?
Thank you.

yes.

i have an asus k53sv which came with windows 7 and a slow 5400rpm hard drive.

i have since upgraded it to a 256gb samsung 840 pro ssd and reinstalled the operating system on the pc.

what you will need:

-windows install media. if running w7 you can download the iso free from the official microsoft source. if running w8 you need to use the microsoft program to create an install media (needs your product key to do this).
-the product key from the bottom of your laptop
-the product key for office or other programs installed on your laptop so you can reinstall them
-drivers (from manufacturers website)
-basic tools to open up laptop and install drive

now instead of taking 30-40 seconds to start i start up in about 9.
