My laptop has both Intel integrated graphics and Nvidia discrete graphics.
Right click on the desktop and select manage 3d settings.
There is an option to select the preferred graphics processor.
The options are autoselect, nvidia and intel integrated.

See if you do not have a similar procedure.

Some laptops will have a physical switch to toggle between integrated power savings and higher performing discrete graphics.

If you have not downloaded the latest AMD Catalyst drivers, do so here.
Once you do that, install. Once you do this, go to Control Panel > Hardware/Device Manager > Display Adapters > right click on Intel HD graphics and disable.

I know they are not the same.
What I was suggesting is to look for a similar option on your laptop.
What make/model is your laptop?

1. Is there a power saving vs. performance physical switch?
2. Is there an option in the bios to prefer one or the other adapter?
3. Is there an option in the radeon graphics control program similar to the nvidia control panel that lets you select which adapter.
4. Is there an option in the power settings? Perhaps one that says use integrated when on battery and discrete when plugged in.
