Switched on Sony laptop and its been 'preparing to configure windows' for 90 minutes and nothing is happening?

I'm not really IT knowledgeable, but I do know configuring windows shouldn't take 90 minutes! its still running and showing the same words 'preparing to configure windows', any thoughts would be appreciated.
