I have a Lenovo T440p (20ANS04504; rPGA947 socket) notebook that currently has an i5 dual-core CPU. I want to upgrade it to an i7 quad-core CPU.
The original CPU is an i5 with the following FRU: 04X4051
I have purchased the CPU below:
Intel Core i7 Processor
i7-4900MQ, 2.8GHz, 8MB Cache
Product Code: BX80647I74900MQ
S-spec: SR15K
S/N: 2W305002A1436
Batch: J307A421
After I place the i7 CPU in, when I power up, the power button remains lit (green) for 8 seconds then powers off. There is no error code nor a prompt for ThinkPad setup. When a swap the old processor back, I am able to boot.
I've talked to a few places and they have stated that it may be due to an incompatible socket type.
I looked at Intel's site and it states that the FCPGA946 is a supported socket type - http/ark.intel.com/products/75131/Intel-Core-i7-4900MQ-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz
I looked at CPU World' site and it states that the rPGA946b is the supported socket type - http/www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SR/SR15K.html
The FCPGA946 socket seems to be compatible with my rPGA947 socket since they are both G3. Wiki says "Socket G3, also known as rPGA 946B/947 or FCPGA 946, is a socket for Intel microprocessors that supports Haswell-based mobile CPUs."
Source: https/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Socket_G3
I have read that the "rPGA947 has one extra pin hole, but otherwise it is similar to the rPGA946. The i7-4700MQ and other socket G3 processors will fit into it."
I have ran Lenovo's system update and confirmed that the BIOS is the latest. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
