Tape tension?

Hello,
I own a tsr-8 and recently have noticed that when I rewind a full tape
about 3/4 of the way through the tension arm drops about 1/2" and the
rewinding slows down to almost a stop. when I push the arm up it
proceeds withoug hesitation. I was wondering if this might be a tape
tension adjustment, or is it a case of making sure the reels are
spooled on as tight as possible before starting. I'll admit I'm not
too experinced with reel to reels and am just learning as I go along.
So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes.
The service manual has directions on the complete lubrication procedure
and on the tension adjustments. If you do not have spring scales, you
might want to take it to a tech who does. This is the sort of thing that
needs to be done every few years. Check the pinch roller while you
are at it.

Yes, and the old good Tentelometer is still obtainable, please check

You don't _need_ one of these to do a TSR-8, although it will save a lot
of time over the spring scales. You do need it to work on a lot of the
machines with servo reel motor controls, like the ATR-100. It really is
a wonderful tool, but it also costs a good bit more than a TSR-8 itself...
