TCL 55" Roku TV wont connect to Sony Blue Ray player

I just bought the TCL 55" Roku TV and cannot get it to connect to my Sony Blue Ray player/ surround sound. Thesurround sounds works if I keep it on DVD player but when I watch TV there is no sound from the surround sound system. I have tried the arc route and nothing seems to work. 🙁 help

Tv model is TCL 55S401
Sony blue ray/surround model is HBD-E290
