[citation][nom]alidan[/nom]they deserve it... im not kidding. we live in an age where everyone should have a computer, its a life necissity almost. to not learn how to fix it just seams retarded to me...but these people put it in the shower... my god... these are the people in collage?[/citation]
A car is also a almost life necessity, does it mean that everyone that uses it should know how to fix it?

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]The fact people took their computer into the bathroom shows what kind of client base Apple has.[/citation]
I'm pretty sure the story would be the same if he'd been "repairing" non-Mac laptops as well...the computer-illiterate come in all shapes and sizes. And brands.

[citation][nom]11796pcs[/nom]Wow- that's just disgusting, but frankly I'm more horrified that someone would actually be stupid enough to take a shower with their Mac. What is this world coming to...?[/citation]
lol, welcome to the mac crowd...i bet that she was blonde 😉

WARNING! You computer needs to be dropped off a bridge while being held tightly to the chest.

If unsure what to do, get cheap gasoline, pour it over your head and start playing with matches until the sensor is clean.

[citation]"You should fix your internal sensor soon," read one popup disguised as a Mac OS X system warning. "If unsure what to do, try putting your laptop near hot steam for several minutes to clean the sensor."
Goodrich said that other victims who also received the same message actually fell for the trick, taking their computers with them into the bathroom while they took a shower.[/citation]

LMAO !!! He is as brilliant as he is sick.

They should know some basics yes, but some people are too thick headed to even know how to change a tire.

Some of us make money on those who cannot fix their own computers. I am one who prays that computer repair remains a specialised form of work. That doesnt mean they are stupid either, while taking a computer into a shower is rediculous, I do not specialise in everything. i do my own computer work, but dont ask me to fix my car.... i do not specialise in that.

I know this can happen to anyone, but I think Mac users are more susceptible since they have this engrained belief that their computers are safe and can be trusted. Not a day goes by without me hearing beady eyed Mac user in a quasi-religious frenzy pontificating that Macs are free from viri and spyware. Even the janitor in my building is now wondering around preaching such claims. So I am not surprised. It is sad to have such level of ignorance, since you know those people are very likely to be targeted.

Yep, people should know how to change brake pads, spark plugs,...

I just became a certified technician and it's people like this that take my business away.
Anyway we can revoke his certifications and degree's, I believe that's the penalty if one does not follow the code of conduct with techs.
I refer to it as the Code of Conduct.

"Sorry, but the days of home visits by PC and Mac repair technicians are over thanks to stunts like this."

Eh .. sorry Kevin but you're wrong about that. As long as people own technology that isn't fisher-price, technicians will be wanted for this type of work. Silly you.

On-site service is FAR from over.

And, honestly, I agree with those saying that people should know at least a little bit about how to fix problems on their own computer (and their car, and their house, etc). Being educated on how to properly use and maintain the stuff you have should be mandatory.

Major tech companies already spy on us with our computers. How is this any different than what Microsoft, Google and Apple do on a daily basis. Maybe they don't like the competition.

When ever I have a client that has a built in webcam I give them two pieces of advice #1 keep webcam covered when not in use (some have a slider cover which I like) . #2 if indicator light is on next to webcam and the software is not active call me... I make sure that the webcam software is not active at startup and I only recommend laptops with the indicator light.
