Terrible Feedback

So some have commented on the terrible state of my mic on Teamspeak when someone else is talking (I use headphones and push to talk). Also, I was having a video chat with a m8 in Canada over MSN, using my headset and I could hear myself reverbing and echoing through his speakers really badly. The sound on my end was fine.

Any ideas on fixing it?

My mobo (MSI P6N Platinum) uses Realtek (onboard not card) and I'm not sure about setting as I only ever needed to use the normal volume settings.

Oh and it's XP Pro SP2.

sometimes this works.. sometimes it doesnt.

Open your volume control applet -- the windows version. find the microphone slider and click the 'mute' checkbox.
