That old chestnut

I have a Toshiba L50 laptop & I think the CPU fan is faulty. Although the unit is not overheating and there is no dust build up, the fan is constantly on high speed. I've tried removing the battery to no avail. It is 5500u @ 2.4ghz. Very low data storage. Runs on average @ 2%-5% between 1.8 - 2ghz..It did the same thing about 6mths ago & then stopped. Now it's spinning its heart out.
Any suggestions?
