The new battery for my Toshiba Satellite L 755 doesn't charge, is it a possible compatibility problem?

Recently I've bought a new battery for my Toshiba Satellite L755 laptop. The model number on my old battery is PA 3817u-1BRS 4200mAh, 10.8V 48 Wh.
I've bought the new one on e bay, with a slightly different model number (PA 3818U-1BRS 5300mAh 10.8 V 61Wh.)
I've asked the seller specifically if the battery he's selling is compatible with my laptop model, and he said yes. The battery arrived today and I tested it immediately, and noticed that it doesn't charge ( the little battery light on the bottom of my laptop is only blinking red when i plug in my ac adapter). I also can not turn my laptop on with this battery in it, even if i have my adapter plugged in too. I had to remove the battery, turn my laptop on, and then while it was turned on, put the new battery in so i could check the battery information, but when i click on the little battery icon it says: fully charged 100%, consider replacing your battery. I'm not sure if my laptop is showing my the information for the new battery,or for my old one,as it is the same as when i plug in my PA 3817u-1BRS.
I am going to contact the seller as soon as possible,but I wanted to know before I do that, if it is a compatibility problem, or if he sent me a defective battery, so I can know if I will ask for a replacement or a money refund. thanks in advance

It is not a compatibility issue. It is a bad Lithium Ion battery.

Look at the underside of the battery. You will see 5 little black dots (these are indicator lights) and a 'battery' logo. Depress the battery logo and keep it depressed. The 5 lights should turn ON and then turn OFF sequentially. If all 5 lights turn ON and then turn OFF one by one, the battery is good.

If say 2 lights are still ON it means the battery has about 40% life in it. In this event the laptop charging light will stay red.

From what you describe, you have a bad battery.

Thanks for the reply, but there are no "black dots" / indicator lights on the battery. The underside of the battery looks like this : http/www.amiline.com/images/s/20123517063556.jpg . I have only indicator lights on the underside of my laptop, and the third one of them is with a battery logo, which is blinking red when i put the new battery in, (and that is strange because it shouldn't be blinking, it should be a constant red or constant white light as it was with my original old battery). I did a little research and noticed when i do cmd "powercfg -energy" while the new battery is in my laptop, it still shows me information of my old one, which to me seems like the laptop isn't even recognizing the new battery, and I'm still not sure if that means that the battery is defective or just not compatible for my laptop.

If the laptop is not recognizing the battery it means that the battery is not compatible.

I have been searching the web for this same exact problem. I hate when a thread ends with NO solution. Ugh! Anyhow, I too bought mine off eBay (think-mall) and he too said it was compatible. However, my computer does not recognize it nor will it power on with the battery and power adapter connected. It will only power on with power adapter. I've tried hard resetting by holding down the power button with battery and power disconnected. Now my computer will not power on at all- EVEN with power adapter alone. Did you ever find your solution and was the ebay seller the same as mine?

PS... I don't mean to sound unappreciative with the replacement battery link- however $129.00 for an Toshiba battery? I bought my entire computer used for just a little more that that. Thanks anyhow.

I paid $50 for my new battery from WCD for my Dell E6500 laptop. I agree I would not pay $129 for any battery from anywhere.

How long do you hold the power button before releasing in the reboot? I am having this issue. I bought a new replacement battery and now the power cord does not charge.

How long do you hold the power button before releasing in the reboot? I am having this issue. I bought a new replacement battery and now the power cord does not charge.

Hard shut-off ---> Depress and hold down the 'Power ON' button for 5 seconds.
